As Jesus Is…So Are We
Our life as believers is not about our efforts to imitate Jesus. He lived His life with a
unique set of circumstances. That being said, we could never hope to live His life any
more than we could live any other person’s life for them. The life of a believer is
about allowing Christ to express His life through us! He does all the work and we
rest in His finished work!
The Bible reveals to us in Hebrews 4:1 that “God has offered us the promise that
we may receive the rest He spoke about…” and in verse 3 it says that “the
person who “believes” will enter into rest!”
As we focus on Jesus and the reality that He alone is our righteousness, our
sanctification, and wisdom, we will soon discover that it becomes effortless to love
people and be kind to them. We will see the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifest in and
through our lives – not because of our works to become righteous or holy, but in
resting in and receiving everything provided through the finished work of Christ.
Someone who is working very hard to be like Jesus soon forgets that they already
are like Him. On the inside, we look just like Him. We have the same spirit, the same
power, the same anointing, and the same status and are seated in heavenly places in
Christ Jesus. We are accepted in Christ, the beloved of the Father (Ephesians 1:18-
21, Ephesians 2:6).
We are seated in the same place as Christ; our life is hid in Christ in God. All that
needs to happen now is for our understanding to catch up with what has already
happened in our spirit by faith!
It is a waste of energy and focus to try to be like Christ when in reality, as a believer,
you already are. Like the Apostle Paul, I pray that we will wake up to our true
identity more and more. 1 John 4:17 – “As He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world.”
